What are the most efficient methods to increase the thrust-to-weight ratio in small electric propulsion systems for drones?

I'm working on designing a small electric propulsion system for a quadcopter drone. I tried using a brushless motor with a lightweight carbon fiber frame, but I'm struggling to find the right combination of battery, motor, and propeller to optimize thrust to weight ratio. I’ve tried different propeller sizes, but I haven’t seen significant improvements. Are there any specific calculations, motor types, or design modifications that could help increase efficiency?
